global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div>Particulate filter is a device on<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dieselmotor\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Diesel engine\" rel=\"noopener\">diesel engines<\/a><span> <\/span>to separate particles from the engine<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Avgas\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Exhaust gas\" rel=\"noopener\">exhaust gases<\/a>.<br \/>\nWith a particulate filter in the exhaust stream, up to 99.9% of particles can be removed. <\/div>\n<p>Particulate matter is defined as anything that can accumulate on a special filter paper through which diesel exhaust passes during a defined test procedure.<br \/>\nDiesel particulate matter consists of <span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kolv%C3%A4te\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Hydrocarbon\" rel=\"noopener\">hydrocarbons<\/a><span> <\/span>from the fuel and<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sm%C3%B6rjolja\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Lubricating oil\" rel=\"noopener\">the lubricating oil<\/a>,<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kol\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"coal\" rel=\"noopener\">coal<\/a><span> <\/span>and<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oorganisk\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Inorganic\" rel=\"noopener\">inorganic<\/a><span> <\/span>topics such as<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Svavel\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Sulphur\" rel=\"noopener\">sulphur<\/a><span> <\/span>and<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aska\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Ashes\" rel=\"noopener\">ashes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A particulate filter must regularly<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regeneration\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Regeneration\" rel=\"noopener\">regenerated<\/a>.<br \/>\nThis can be done passively where the filter is regenerated during normal operation or actively where the temperature in the filter is increased in different ways.<br \/>\nFor this to work better  <span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oxidation\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Oxidation\" rel=\"noopener\">oxidation temperatures<\/a><span> <\/span>of soot can be reduced by using additives in the fuel or by increasing the proportion<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kv%C3%A4vedioxid\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Nitrogen dioxide\" rel=\"noopener\">nitrogen dioxide<\/a><span> <\/span>in the exhaust gases.<br \/>\nNitrogen dioxide oxidizes <span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sot\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Soot\" rel=\"noopener\">foolish<\/a><span> <\/span>at lower temperature than oxygen and can be formed by<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oxidation\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Oxidation\" rel=\"noopener\">oxidation<\/a><span> <\/span>of<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kv%C3%A4veoxid\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Nitrogen oxide\" rel=\"noopener\">nitric oxide<\/a><span> <\/span>over a<span> <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sv.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Katalysator\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Catalytic converter\" rel=\"noopener\">catalyst<\/a><span> <\/span>before the filter.<br \/>\nThe particulate filter can also be coated with catalytic material that contributes to the oxidation of nitrogen oxide. <\/p>\n<p>In active regeneration, the temperature in the filter is increased to accelerate the oxidation of soot.<br \/>\nThis can be done by additional injection of fuel, either into the cylinder to increase the exhaust gas temperature or through an oxidation catalyst mounted before the filter in the exhaust gas stream.<br \/>\nThe oxidation of the fuel over the catalyst leads to an increase in temperature which accelerates soot combustion.<br \/>\nFor fuel to be oxidized in the catalyst, the catalyst temperature must exceed about 250\u00b0C, which can be a problem in some applications where the exhaust gas temperature is low for a long time.<br \/>\nOther ways to regenerate the filter are by using a burner before the filter or by electrical heating, either of the filter or the exhaust gas.    <\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;
